Mission Australia Lismore offers free advocacy and support for Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) housing tenants through the Tenant Participation and Community Engagement (TPCE) Program. This program is funded to work with DCJ social housing tenants in Goonellabah and Casino only.
TPCE aims to empower tenants in their DCJ housing experience to address any tenancy issues by working alongside DCJ and their clients for favourable outcomes.
Mission Australia can also provide referrals to other appropriate services based on the client’s current circumstances and needs.
Some of these referrals include family support, emergency relief, mental health, linking in with domestic and family violence counselling, Centrelink, TAFE and employment services.
TPCE also provides opportunities for tenants to take an active part in community projects and with the support of the TPCE facilitator, tenants are encouraged to become involved in community project design, coordination and/or implementation.
Work and Development Order opportunities are offered alongside community projects for tenant volunteers to help reduce debt from fines administered by Revenue NSW.
A previous TPCE project involved building a Bush Tucker Garden which helped increase tenant engagement within the Goonellabah community. DCJ social housing tenants can self-refer and agencies/ organisations can refer on clients’ behalf.
