Are you able to support Clarence Valley Close the Gap 2020?

Nungera Cooperative are currently seeking financial assistance to help fund the Clarence Valley Close the Gap Day 2020. The Clarence Valley Close the Gap Day 2019 attracted over 500 people including preschools, primary schools, high schools, organisations and general community members. The focus on the day was around the Close the Gap initiatives in areas of health, education, employment, and justice, with a cultural blanket over all subjects. The day was targeted at the entire community, not just the Aboriginal community, to create further awareness to non-Aboriginal attendees and to educate them on the difficulties Aboriginal people can face.

All sponsorship received helps cover the costs of transport for schools to attend; free BBQ lunch on the day; Elders tent and food; shirts to give to all school students; coordination of the event; and activities and prizes on the day.

We are hoping to make this an annual event where all communities within the Clarence Valley can participate in sharing knowledge and learning new information. Organisational stalls are encouraged to set up and have information available. Students will have a set program to ensure the most is made of the day – each age group rotation will be different. The day will focus on all nations within the Clarence Valley – Yaegl, Bundjalung and Gumbaynggirr – and share the importance of our culture with non-Aboriginal people.
