NORPA and our First Nations Program are developing a new project titled First Aboriginal Olympian. Rhoda Roberts AO and the First Nations production team are keen to hear your thoughts, stories, and document our history of Cubawee and our other Bundjalung communities

Our many leaders, custodians, and elders, built Cubawee and created homes that showed us all that anything was possible especially against a backdrop of forced removals, Government policy, segregation and a welfare system that dictated and controlled our lives. Cubawee was seen by authorities as a blot on civilisation, so let’s begin the truth telling, through the universal sporting story of Frank Francis Roberts who represented us at the Olympics, the first Indigenous person in this country to obtain selection for the Games.

This gathering comes at a time when there is an increased desire and need to celebrate country, community and heal our connections.

We hope you can join us for our first community consultation. We would also greatly appreciate your assistance in getting the word out there to family members and community who have connections to Cubawee.
