The Policy, Strategy and Research team will be hosting another Research Snapshot Forum on Tuesday 17th August. This time around, we have invited researchers from the University of Queensland to present on their research examining the use of trans-affirming language in the workplace and the impact on trans and gender diverse employees’ well-being.
When: Tuesday 17th August 2pm – 3pm
Where: Online via Eventbrite/Zoom
Here’s a little bit more info on the content of the research forum:
As the benefits of workplace inclusion become progressively recognised, employers are making greater efforts to cultivate inclusive organisational environments where employees from diverse backgrounds can thrive. Yet research has often neglected issues of sexual orientation and gender diversity. Drawing on research undertaken by University of Queensland and Pride in Diversity, this presentation aims to redress this knowledge gap by examining processes of workplace inclusion for trans and gender diverse employees by focusing on an under-researched area: the role of language.
The presentation addresses two important questions: Which factors are associated with the use of trans-affirming language within the workplace? And what impact does exposure to trans-affirming language have on trans employees’ wellbeing?
As always, I am hoping that the forum will be quite interactive, with opportunities for questions and discussion following the presentations.
