The Clubhouse, the global tech and arts youth program founded by the MIT Media Lab, is expanding in the region. This term saw it open an outreach site in Goonellabah at the YWCA. The YWCA provided the perfect location for the Clubhouse being close to both schools and other amenities in Goonellabah.

The program will be part of a suite of youth activities running across the week from the ‘Y’ and is offered on a Wednesday afternoon from 3:30 – 6:00 pm.  The Y is offering transport to families who may have trouble accessing the site.

The Clubhouse has also extended to Ballina, with Monday 26th October being the opening day of our new Ballina Clubhouse.  Funded by the NSW Regional Stronger Country Communities Fund the Clubhouse will be operational from Monday to Thursday 3:30-6:00 pm.  The menu of activities in Ballina includes

·         Grow – plan, make and grow a garden bed you can eat!

·         Digital storytelling – from the page to the digital stage,

·         Crafternoon – fun with analogue technology, using your hands to make things and

·         Intro to code – Fun with Makey-Makey and scratch inventing your own projects.

Each afternoon will see the young people focussing on a different element of STEAM as they grow their skills and imaginations.

The Clubhouse continues to operate its usual Monday to Thursday program from its Lismore location, under the Conservatorium in the Tech Den remains our flagship site.  The Lismore Clubhouse is open Monday to Thursday 3:30-6:00 pm.

Every second Monday of the Month the Clubhouse also offers Mini Fruits and Friends.  Mini Fruits and Friends is a safe place for young people who are aged between 12-15 years of age who identify as LGBTIQ+ and their allies.  This program is offered from the Spaced Out Room in Headspace.
