Led by Council On the Ageing (COTA) Australia, a revised industry code on visiting aged care homes has been developed by 12 aged care consumer and provider organisations including the Older Persons Advocacy Network (OPAN). The Code includes an essential visitor policy requiring that residents are always permitted to have at least one visitor. It aims to balance best practice safety measures in aged care with the rights and mental health of older people. For more information and a copy of the Code see the OPAN website.
