Women’s Village Collective (WVC) are seeking a part time Flood Recovery/ Community Development Officer to support the Northern Rivers region.

Working closely with the Managing Director, this role is responsible for identifying needs, and support for flood affected community members and clients in housing stress. The position involves managing properties, providing access to information and resources to help assist with flood recovery outcomes and pathways to secure housing.

Key responsibilities of the position will be to work closely with the community, investigate partnership and grant opportunities, oversee volunteers and contractors, manage partnerships and stakeholder relations and facilitate effective community-led recovery activities and programs to help clients pathways towards longer term housing security.

This position is a part time position Starting November 2022 until 31st August 2023.

  • Hold a qualification (Degree/Diploma/Certificate) in social work, social sciences, community development, community welfare, trauma informed practices and career counselling
  • Demonstrated knowledge of asset-based and/or participatory community development frameworks. Experience and/or knowledge of community recovery of interest.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse problems and create practical solutions to client needs.
  • Proven excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build partnerships, support formation of community-based action/working groups and consult with a diverse range of people
  • The role may involve some service delivery
  • Demonstrated well developed communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Demonstrated planning and project management experience, utilising experience in the creation and activation of community development plans and activities.

The role offers 

  • A part time role 20-30 hours per week, flexible work hours and work from home opportunities
  • Regular meetings with teams, volunteers, clients, management and stakeholders based in Byron Shire and the greater Northern Rivers area, in person and online
  • A salary range of $60,000- $80,000 pro-rata dependent on skills, experience and qualifications, plus superannuation
